New technologies have resulted in M-Shield Reflective Insulation Fi-Foil's Mold Protection for Masonry Walls. Intended for use on furred-out walls, this innovative paperless solution incorporates a premium grade of aluminum foil and specially designed synthetic polymers that contain no cellulose, a food for mold that is typically found in insulation. The layers separate with internal expanders creating a reflective air space when installed. An additional airspace is formed when M-Shield is installed on wood or metal furring strips spaced 16 or 24 on center. The second reflective air space is dependent upon the thickness of the furring strip selected. M-Shield's R-values range from R-4.1 to R-5.1.
When tested in accordance with ASTM standards, M-Shield exhibited zero growth of mold or mildew. The product's design incorporates small perforations throughout to allow vapor transmission for applications that do not require a vapor retarder.
M-Shield is also an effective alternative to rigid foam board and is 30% less expensive while at the same time providing high R-values.
