HAI Leadership HAI was formed in 1985 by Tom Pickral, Jay McLellan and Brian Yokum. Since the Company's inception, Jay McLellan, HAI's President, has been devoting time to growth, recognition and advancement of the home automation industry. HAI was a charter member of the Home Automation Association (HAA) in 1989, which evolved and grew to become the TechHome Division of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). McLellan has been on the Board of Directors since 1989. In 1999 Jay was awarded the Associations' highest honor, the Leadership Award, for outstanding contribution and leadership in his field. In 2004 Jay McLellan was recognized by the editors of CE Pro magazine as one of the 10 Most Influential Industry Leaders of the past 10 years. Also, in 2004 Jay McLellan was elected Vice-Chair of the TechHome Division of the CEA. In 2005 he was appointed to the CEA's Board of Industry Leaders, which elects the Officers of the CEA and advises on industry promotion, networking and education. For 2006 McLellan is the Chair of the TechHome Division and is on the Executive Board of the CEA. Jay McLellan won the Frost & Sullivan Award for 2006 Building Technologies CEO of the Year. Infrastructure HAI acquired a 51,000 sq. ft. building in the beginning of 2005. This building has over 100 tons of air conditioning and 600 fluorescent lighting fixtures. The first thing we did, of course, was to install an OmniPro II for security, lighting and energy management. We have retrofitted most of the lighting fixtures with high-efficiency ballasts. We have installed energy efficient variable speed drives for the air handlers and chilled water pumps. These up-front efforts and costs will ensure reduced energy consumption and pollution as a result of our operations. Note that HAI's building was damaged during Hurricane Katrina and had to be rehabilitated. We moved back into the building in April 2006. HAI’s Internal Conservation Efforts HAI recycles. Although it would be cheaper to just throw it in the dumpster, HAI recycles cardboard, office paper and aluminum.
